These Terms & Conditions apply to purchases made through the Chong Fine Objects website.

Chong Fine Objects specialises in antique, vintage and decorative objects, including works of art, jewellery, minerals and other objects of historical or aesthetic interest. Because many of our objects are unique or of considerable age, each piece may show signs of age, use, restoration or natural variation.

By placing an order through this website, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.

  1. Our Objects

Each object offered by Chong Fine Objects is described and photographed as accurately as reasonably possible.

Antique and vintage objects are not new products. Signs of age, use and manufacture may include:

  • patina and variations in colour;
  • minor scratches, dents or surface wear;
  • old repairs or restorations;
  • small imperfections resulting from age or traditional manufacture;
  • natural variations in materials;
  • traces of previous use.

Where we are aware of significant damage, restoration, alteration or other relevant condition issues, these will be described in the product listing.

The photographs form an important part of the description of the object. Colours may appear slightly different depending on the screen or device used to view them.

Measurements are given as accurately as possible. Minor differences may occur.

  1. Descriptions, Dating and Attribution

Descriptions concerning age, period, origin, maker, designer, school, material or attribution are based on our research and professional judgement.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, descriptions such as “attributed to”, “in the manner of”, “in the style of”, “after” or “possibly” are not intended to constitute a definitive attribution.

Where an object’s authorship, date or origin cannot be established with certainty, we will describe it accordingly.

For antique and vintage objects, age and attribution should always be understood in the context of the information provided in the individual product description.

  1. Prices

All prices displayed on the website are in euros (€) and include applicable VAT where legally required.

Unless specifically stated otherwise, shipping costs are not included in the displayed purchase price and will be shown separately before the order is completed.

For international deliveries, the customer may be responsible for import duties, customs charges, local taxes or other charges imposed by the destination country.

  1. Availability

Most objects offered by Chong Fine Objects are unique or available in very limited quantities.

An item is not reserved until payment has been received and the order has been confirmed by us.

If an object is no longer available due to an error, simultaneous purchase or another exceptional circumstance, we will inform you as soon as possible and refund any payment already received for that object.

  1. Placing an Order

By placing an order through the website, you make an offer to purchase the selected object.

An order becomes binding when we have accepted the order and sent an order confirmation.

We reserve the right to refuse or cancel an order in exceptional circumstances, for example where an obvious pricing or description error has occurred or where an object is no longer available.

If an order is cancelled after payment has been received, the full amount paid for the cancelled order will be refunded.

  1. Payment

Payment must be made using one of the payment methods offered on the website.

The order will normally be processed after payment has been successfully received.

We do not consider an item sold until payment has been received and the order has been confirmed.

  1. Delivery

We aim to dispatch orders within the period stated on the product page or during checkout.

Delivery times are estimates and may vary depending on the destination, carrier, customs procedures and other circumstances outside our reasonable control.

For larger, fragile or particularly valuable objects, we may contact the customer separately to agree an appropriate delivery method.

The customer is responsible for providing a complete and accurate delivery address.

  1. International Delivery

We ship internationally where a suitable delivery service is available.

Customers outside the European Union should be aware that their country may impose:

  • import duties;
  • customs fees;
  • local VAT or other taxes;
  • clearance or brokerage charges.

These charges are the responsibility of the customer unless expressly stated otherwise at the time of purchase.

The customer is responsible for ensuring that the purchased object may legally be imported into the destination country.

  1. Damage During Delivery

We take care to package objects appropriately for their nature, age and fragility.

If an item arrives damaged, please contact us as soon as possible and provide photographs of:

  1. the object;
  2. the packaging;
  3. any visible damage to the packaging;
  4. the shipping label.

This information may be required to make a claim with the carrier.

Nothing in this section limits any mandatory rights the customer has under applicable consumer law.

  1. Right of Withdrawal – Consumers

If you are a consumer purchasing from within the European Economic Area, you generally have a statutory right to withdraw from an online purchase within 14 days without giving a reason, subject to the legal exceptions.

The withdrawal period normally begins on the day after you, or a person designated by you other than the carrier, receives the object.

To exercise your right of withdrawal, you must inform us within the withdrawal period by a clear statement, for example by e-mail or by using the withdrawal function provided on our website.

You may also use the statutory model withdrawal form, although its use is not mandatory.

After notifying us of your withdrawal, you must return the object without undue delay and normally no later than 14 days after notifying us.

Unless otherwise required by law, the direct cost of returning the object is the responsibility of the customer.

The object must be returned with reasonable care. You may handle and inspect the object only to the extent necessary to establish its nature, characteristics and functioning. If the object has been handled beyond what is reasonably necessary, you may be liable for any resulting loss in value, to the extent permitted by law.

We will refund the purchase price and the standard outbound delivery cost paid by you, subject to the applicable legal requirements. We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the returned object or until you have provided evidence that it has been returned, whichever occurs first.

Where permitted by law, we will refund the payment using the same payment method used for the original transaction.

  1. Exceptions to the Right of Withdrawal

The statutory right of withdrawal does not apply in circumstances where the law expressly provides an exception.

If an individual object falls within such an exception, this will be clearly indicated before purchase.

  1. Returns of Antique and Vintage Objects

Returning an antique or vintage object does not mean that normal signs of age have to be absent.

The object should be returned in essentially the same condition in which it was received, allowing for reasonable inspection as described above.

Particular care should be taken when returning fragile, valuable or antique objects. We recommend retaining the original packaging until the withdrawal period has expired.

  1. Legal Guarantee and Conformity

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects your statutory consumer rights.

Products must conform to the agreement and to the reasonable expectations that a consumer may have based on the information provided before purchase.

For antique and vintage objects, reasonable expectations must take into account the object’s age, described condition, materials, restoration and other characteristics expressly or clearly disclosed in the product description.

We do not provide a commercial guarantee unless a specific guarantee is expressly stated for the individual object.

  1. Errors in Listings

We make reasonable efforts to ensure that descriptions, measurements, photographs and prices are accurate.

If we discover a material error before an order has been accepted, we may contact you and offer the option to proceed with the corrected information or cancel the order.

If an error is discovered after an order has been accepted, your statutory rights remain unaffected.

  1. Intellectual Property

All photographs, texts, descriptions, logos, graphics and other original content published by Chong Fine Objects are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

Unless expressly permitted by us, this content may not be copied, reproduced, modified, distributed or commercially used without prior written permission.

  1. Personal Data

Personal data is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

The Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect personal information and how you may exercise your privacy rights.

  1. Complaints

If you have a complaint concerning an order or an object, please contact us first at:

Please provide your order number and a clear description of the issue.

We will endeavour to respond within a reasonable period and to resolve complaints fairly and constructively.

Nothing in this complaints procedure limits any statutory rights you may have.

  1. Force Majeure

We are not responsible for delays or failure to perform an obligation where this is caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, war, government measures, strikes, serious disruption of transport services, customs delays or major failures of postal or delivery networks.

This provision does not affect mandatory consumer rights.

  1. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time.

The version applicable to an order is the version in force at the time the purchase agreement is concluded.

Changes will not affect rights that have already arisen under an existing purchase agreement.

  1. Applicable Law

These Terms & Conditions and agreements concluded through the website are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection provisions that apply in the country in which a consumer resides.

Consumers within the European Union retain any mandatory rights granted to them by applicable European and national consumer legislation.

  1. Disputes

We encourage customers to contact us first so that we can try to resolve any dispute amicably.

If a dispute cannot be resolved amicably, the competent court will be determined in accordance with applicable law and mandatory consumer jurisdiction rules.
